At Christmas 1993 I was invited to give a concert on December 24 in the church of the village of my family. I found it interesting not only to perform at the concert but to compose something that I could play at that concert. Then I had the idea of composing a series of variations on the well-known theme of "Silent Night" by Franz Gruber
