Valzer, An Encore to End All Encores, was written for a series of recitals in the United States sung by Barbara Wester with the composer at the piano, Valzer references nearly 30 song and operatic quotations. At the premiere, the composer offered a free steak dinner to anyone who could spot all the references. Famed musicologist Rheinhardt Pauly was in the audience, and successfully met the challenge.
