The original instrumentation is unknown for now. The suggestion is it was for orchestra. Tagging is therefore subject to correction.
On the string orchestra score there is a mark that it was icluded into a suite for string orchestra Fra Bygd og By (it is dated 1909 by the National Library of Norway [1] - a terminus ante quem for the Valse). As there is no such indication on the full orchestral parts and the piano version, it seems that the valse was originally an independert composition. The parts are dated 1908, which may be the composition date.
