During his student years, Nielsen composed 5songs to texts by English poets, in a Danish translation by Christian Preetzmann. It is probable that his music theory teacher Orla Rosenhoff was the instigator.
The set FS 3 contains these 5 and settings of Jacobsen and Aarestrup.
The original poem here is no longer regarded as being by Shelley (at least according to the notes to a collected Delphi edition.) It is by St. John, who successfully perpetrated a hoax: see The Complete Poetry of Percy Bysshe Shelley.
