This work was a Europe-wide "hit" in 1895, and made the young publishing house Bosworth & Co., based in Leipzig, despite the English name, and only founded in 1889, into a major force. Bosworth continued to expand at a whirlwind pace until 1914, by which time it was publishing 30,000 titles.
