This piece was commissioned by the Society of Finnish Contractors, for their 10th anniversary. The 1st version was composed in 1914 to a text by Arnold Candolin (pseudon. Aarni Kouta 1884-1924). The society disliked the poem and Kuula crafted an entirely different version to a text by Iivo Härkönen (1882-1941). A doubtful version for male choir a cappella exists (of the 'Version Härkönen'). It was published 1958 by Fazer (in 'Miesten laululipas' #8)
