In many ways, this piece is the simplest I have written, but this was by design. It was written for my niece, Sierra, for her baby blessing. I wanted to evoke a very clean, purifying sound. I stuck with basic scales and arpeggios, but true to my style couldn’t resist mixing in some richer cords for support. I purposely kept the length short, imagining I would only be playing for a just a minute or so as part of the ceremony. I delivered the music as a gift to my sister Sylvia and brother in law Shawn as a gift, printed on rustic looking paper that Kristine helped me find. I always looked forward to when Sierra grew up and could hear something written specially for her.
