This is a 10-minute Konzertstück or Concertino for piano and symphonic orchestra. The (quite elaborated) sketches for a new piano concerto (after my Concerto Romantique), date back from 2004. In 2020 I composed this one movement concert piece using and elaborating on the existing thematic material. It is an adventurous modern-classical piece in sonata form, but with mixed development (starting at 3’00”) and reprise sections. Both themes are fast, energetic and witty (Allegro con spirito), but there is a slower short middle section based on the second theme (Quasi andantino) that you might also see as a short slow movement (starting at 4’15”, till just before 6’00”). The themes’ character changes from rather harsh in the exposition to more gentle and sometimes even dancelike in the development and reprise section. The piece should be fun to play, with enough possibilities for the soloist (and the orchestra) to show off. Digital performance using Sibelius 6 and Garritan Personal Orchestra. Moving score videos and play along videos are on my YouTube-channel.
