Premiered by Nevena Majdevac and Katia Moling of Trio Lignan at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Belgrad in 2017. This Divertimento features music I wrote during my first months teaching in China (2014). “Insomnia” was written during sleepless jetlag nights in Hangzhou. “Polvo y guitarra” means “dust and guitar” in Spanish: a piece initially conceived for guitar, the only instrument I had in my studio. “Xia Ping” was the Chinese nickname to a non-Chinese woman. I forgot its literal meaning in Mandarin, but it sounded poetic. Gossip: the notes of the main subject, in German nomenclature, are taken from her real name. “Finale” is a two-voice invention with two contrasting themes, and later became “Kilkenny Cats” in “Six Merry Pieces for Harpsichord”. I think the new label suits it fine.
