Several forms of a 278 page vocal score by the composer are @ ÖNB.
It's possible that a separate women's chorus is desired for the Chor des Mädchen that appears in many of the first 8 or so scenes, or that they should be part of the main chorus that only appears in full in scene 11 ("In der Kirche", with the organ.) It's a good question... similarly perhaps re men's chorus in no. 10a(?!) in act 2 and others.
A large group of offstage instruments collects in the middle of Act 2 No.13 ("Ballade") (p.261) (continuing into no.14 "Finale", p.271). (The offstage Glocken were called for earlier.)
Not sure why the composer calls for a "ventiltrompett"- aren't most of his trumpets valve-trumpets rather than "natural" trumpets in a 1868 work?
