Corri & Co.

History

Founded sometime after 1771 (possibly around 1780) by Italian composer Domenico Corri (1746–1825) in Edinburgh, Scotland, with his son John and a musician named James Sutherland. Natale, Corri's younger brother, was also active in the publishing business. Following the death of Sutherland in 1790, Corri moved to London and established a new branch of his publishing business there, and his brother Natale continued operations in Edinburgh. Following the 1792 marriage of Corri's daughter, Sophia, to Jan Ladislav Dussek (1760–1812), Corri entered into business partnership with Dussek, and the company was renamed to Corri, Dussek & Co. The date the partnership was established is unclear, but was likely between 1792 and 1796. In 1800, Corri went bankrupt, and this appeared to have suspended operations for a time. In 1804, Corri's son, Philippe, took over the publishing business, but its fate is unclear.
