Son of Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke. Brother of Johann Friedrich Schwencke. Uncle of Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke.
Famous in his day for his salon-compositions on opera themes.
Fetis opines that he was a prey to publishers, who led him to "sacrifier le sentiment pur de l'art a la speculation de la mode."
