Classifying this work is difficult -- though in Latin, it is secular in content. Grove Music says that it was one of "three compositions concerning the unauthorized departure of Prince Alfonso for France in 1552", so it classifies this merely as a "Secular Latin" composition, and not as a madrigal. However, Bernhard Meier included it in a collection of motets (Rome: American Institute of Musicology, 1975). One RISM entry classifies it as a madrigal, but another RISM entry classifies it merely as a song. For now, this is tagged as both a madrigal and a motet.
