The 5-string violin is a violin with an extra low C string. The 5-string viola pomposa, is a viola with an extra high E string. Thus the stringing of the two instruments is the same. The Grove Music article on viola pomposa does not mention it as a violin, and the Wikipedia:Five string violin article only deals with 20th-century uses of it, and mentions nothing of violas. Thus, there is a possibility that the boxes of these instruments are different in size, but as far as the stringing goes, it is exactly the same. Tagged for both instruments for now.
