Misc. Notes This series of 20 intermediate-level studies for double bass is grounded on Richard Hofmann’s Die Ersten Studien für Viola, op. 86. The studies were recomposed to make them productive for and idiomatic to the double bass. A tendency toward prolixity in the original works was curbed, phrase lengths were varied, and some melodic contours were reworked. Some metric changes were introduced. All expression markings were added. All the keys were changed, and some minor range adjustments were made; these double bass studies are all contained within the orchestral positions traditionally called half through seventh.
