Extra Information Spohr withdrew this quartet (and the next and final one, Op.157 in g) from publication about two years after the date of composition, leaving it in manuscript until the 21st century. Opus number 155 assigned by Hans Glenewinkel in study of Spohr's chamber music in 1912.

Navigation etc.

The first movement quotes the first movement of Haydn's Symphony No. 98 as its main theme, perhaps representing the composer's stated desire to return to the classical ideals of Haydn and Mozart. An (earlier?) manuscript version exists in G minor; the first movement in particular was apparently extensively rewritten.
