The work is without written dedication, but since there is a reproduction of a photograph of her on the cover of the published edition, the 'princess' of the title clearly refers to the Princess Royal, Princess Mary, daughter of King George V and Queen Alexandra. It was probably written to commemorate her wedding to Viscount Lascelles on 22 February 1922.
