Born in the Rhineland, perhaps in or near Cologne. Conductor and chorus master active in Cologne. Directed the chorus of the Cologne radio station from 1927 to 1933 and of the
Westdeutscher Rundfunk from 1947 to 1962, when he retired and was succeeded by Herbert Schernus. He was the choir director of the Städtischer Musikverein zu Düsseldorf from January 1962 until November 1964, when he was succeeded by Jean Martinon.
