Director of the Stern Conservatory, Berlin from 1895 to 1915. The institution flourished, attracting over 1000 students per year, although it received no state subsidy.
Older brother of composer Victor Hollaender (1866—1940) and writer Felix Hollaender (1867-1931)
His son Kurt Hollaender (1885-1942 ca.) ran, from 1935 to 1940, the Jüdische private Musikschule Hollaender, (Berlin-Charlottenburg, Sybelstraße 9), a successor institution to the Stern Conservatory. The contralto Paula Salomon-Lindberg (1897-2000) was an important member of staff. The Stern Conservatory was renamed Konservatorium der Reichshauptstadt Berlin in 1936.
No relation to his contemporary Alexis Hollaender (1840-1924)
