After his father, cellist Johann Gottfried Arnold (1773—1806)'s premature death he was adopted by Johann Anton André (1775-1842), the composer and publisher from Offenbach (Frankfurt), who had 15 children of whom 8 outlived him.
Carl Arnold was a pianist and music director (1847-73 in Oslo) and his son Carl (1824–1867) was a cellist.
Fetis comments: La musique d'Arnold est d'une execution difficile.
